DIY Slime - Sensory Play

I’ll never forget the time my parents let my sister and I play with slime as children. We had a blast! It was loads of fun and we were so creative twisting it into different shapes as the colours blended together. I remember thinking it was the best activity in the world.
I loved it so much that when my sister attempted to steal MY piece of slime I decided to hide it under my HAT! Not my smartest moment. This is probably the reason why I remember playing with slime so vividly.

I remember my parents picking the slime out with a fine tooth comb and joking about cutting my hair off. Thanks, Mom.

If you would have told me before having children that I’d be making my own slime on the regular, I would have thought you’re CRAZY! But here we are, and I am enjoying every minute of it. Just throw your kids hair in a ponytail and you’re good to go! It also comes out easily with coconut oil so no need to get the scissors.

I may never buy slime again now that I know how EASY this is to make yourself! Not only do you get triple the amount of any store bought slime, but it is extremely inexpensive and loads of fun for toddlers! Within minutes you can make different colours of slime.

There are many variations of homemade slime. What I love about this recipe is that adding shaving cream makes it extra fluffy and adds a spin on the traditional texture. My kids had so much fun playing with this and watching the colours swirl together.

You will need:
0.5 Cups White School Glue
1.5 Cups Shaving Cream
2 Tablespoons Contact Saline Solution
Food Colouring

Instructions:
1) Place white school glue in a bowl. (I love Amazon for their glue as you get a ton for an amazing price! I have this linked in my Amazon shop, along with many crafting supplies).
2) Add in 2-6 drops of food colouring and mix until you reach your desired colour. Note: when you add in the shaving cream the colour will be much lighter so go a tad darker here!
3) Add in two tablespoons of saline solution and mix. If you would like a thicker texture, simply add more saline.
4) Scoop in your shaving cream a little at a time and mix in.
5) Once combined, knead the mixture with your hands. It will be sticky at first but the more you knead the less sticky it becomes. Note: you can always add in extra shaving cream to make it less sticky!
6) I recommend doing this with two or three colours as it’s fun to watch them swirl together and they will eventually combine into one.
6) Remember to put your kid’s hair, and your own, in a ponytail!

Have fun with this!

As mentioned, there are TONS of variations when making your own slime. I have even seen some with glitter that I will be trying when the kids are a little older.

If you find your kids are too young for slime here is a TIP! Place the slime into Ziploc bags! Watch them mix the colours through the Ziploc. You may even add in a few little toys or pompom surprises for extra texture and fun.

Always remember to supervise your children as this slime is not edible and should not be consumed.
