Homemade Moon Sand - Kids Activity

My kids love playing with sand. Building sand castles is one of their favourite activities. With the weather cooling down we slowly introduce more indoor activities. (Although getting outside is always a priority!) If you have a toddler at home you fully understand keeping them entertained inside is much more challenging than heading outdoors.
Here is a quick sensory activity that brings the park to you!

I love how clean moon sand is in comparison to the park; however, don’t be fooled as it can be quite messy. Be sure to have a change of clothing and damp cloth near by and you are ready to go.

You will need:
8 Cups White All-Purpose Flour
1 Cup Baby Oil
Mixing Bowl
Dough/Pastry Blender (optional)

Instructions:

1) Place the flour into a large mixing bowl
2) Slowly add in the baby oil a little at a time and mix with your pastry blender to get rid of any clumps. Note: if you do not have a pastry blender a simple fork will do the trick! You may spend a solid 5-10 minutes of mixing to ensure it’s all combined together but it’s as easy as that!
3) Place sand into a sensory bin with a variety of buckets, shovels and sand toys!

The best part of this activity is that you can always add in more flour or oil to achieve your desired consistency. Once completed I prefer to store this in a sensory bin with a sealed lid so that it can last multiple days, even weeks!

I hope you enjoy making this and your children enjoy playing with it. I absolutely can picture us doing this activity a few more times over the winter when outdoor parks are out of the question.
