DIY Sidewalk Chalk Painting

Looking for a twist on traditional sidewalk chalk?
Presenting DIY Sidewalk Chalk PAINTING, perfect for a beautiful sunny day. I have to be honest, this activity involved a little more preparation than my regular go-to activities; however, it is worth the extra effort as we were painting for the majority of our morning. Making the paint is an activity in and of itself! My son loved using his learning tower to help mama stir the paint.
It’s amusing to see where your child’s imagination goes and what creative designs they come up with. I bet you already have all the ingredients in your household to do this activity!

Before you begin you will need:
- Muffin Tin
- Grater
- Water
- Sidewalk Chalk
- Paint Brushes
- Corn Starch

Instructions:
1) Grate 1/2 the chalk of your desired colours
2) Mix 2 tablespoons of cornstarch with 2-3 tablespoons of water
3) Mix in 1 tablespoon of the grated chalk
4) Pour paint mixture into muffin tin and you are ready to paint

Note: I used six different colours and I doubled this recipe to fill a full muffin tin. The paint is meant for same day use as the corn starch will harden over time. If the paint hardens during the activity, there is an easy fix - simply add in another tablespoon of water!

You may find other recipes suggesting to use washable paint or food colouring. To be honest, we found it works BEST with the grated sidewalk chalk and it is the easiest cleanup by far. Have your hose ready to wash down your driveway (and children) once finished. Also, do not let it bake in the sun for days on your driveway.
