Coffee Filter Butterflies - Washable Marker Craft
I love the simplicity and beauty of these coffee filter butterflies! Not only did my kids have fun putting these together, but they made for pretty room decor and toys afterwards - all about the variety! My son enjoyed tossing these butterflies around while my daughter played with them as if they were her new little buddies.
The best part is you likely have all these materials already in your home and it takes 5 minutes to prep! So go ahead, grab those coffee filters from your pantry and watch the joy in your children’s eyes when they see what you prepared for them. The magic of the colours blending together is truly phenomenal.
You will need:
Coffee Filters
Washable Markers
Pipe Cleaners
Water in a Spray Bottle
Instructions:
1) Lay the items listed above on a thick tablecloth. You want to ensure this craft is done on a surface which can be easily cleaned as the washable markers may seep through when wet.
2) Have you child colour half of the coffee filters using the washable markers. If your child is too little do not worry, it still will work with their scribbles. If your kids are older I do encourage you to have them only colour on half of the coffee filter to see the full pattern take effect.
3) Once the coffee filter is coloured in, fold the paper in half.
4) Take your spray bottle filled with water and lightly spray the coffee filter until completely covered.
5) Press the filter together to ensure the colours are nicely blended.
6) Open the coffee filter and set aside to dry on some paper towels. It will be fun to have your child open the filter to reveal the beautiful pattern.
7) Once dry, fold the coffee filters like an accordion and secure down the center with a pipe cleaner. Note: you will need two coffee filters per butterfly.
Enjoy your new beautiful friends!
These would be perfect for spring or even Valentines Day! We definitely will be giving these a try in the near future again.
