Veggie Tree Painting - Toddler Craft
A little activity to remind us of how beautiful and important trees are to our planet. We are located in Ontario, and with the recent Derecho & storms that passed through our city, many trees did not survive. As our family walked the beaten path and observed all the damages, my kids asked 101 questions about trees. Why did they fall down, why are they so big, why do their leaves change colours, etc etc… As I responded to each curious question I decided to plan a fun lesson around trees and the importance they have to our planet, whatever it takes to make their questions more tolerable right mamas?
Here are some fun facts for kids around trees to keep the conversation going, their minds rolling, and to give mama that much needed break.
Trees can live for thousands of years and you can tell its age by counting the rings inside the trunk.
Trees have roots underground which help them stand nice and tall.
Trees need sunlight, which is absorbed through its leaves.
Trees are used to make may items like paper and anything made from wood.
Trees have many parts including the trunk, branches, roots and leaves.
Trees provide oxygen and improved air quality to help us breath.
You will need:
Paper or construction paper
Washable paint
Vegetables (cauliflower or broccoli work great!)
Brown marker
Instructions:
1) Using your marker, draw tree trunks on multiple pieces of paper or construction paper
2) Place blobs of paint in desired colours on a plate. We stuck to typical leaf colours such as green, orange, yellow, and red. However, you truly can use any colour - there are no rules!
3) Lay out a variety of vegetables in different sizes for your child to use and have them start stamping.
TIPS:
Make sure to leave more room for the leaves on the top of your page! Have the tree truck go up no more than 3/4ths of the page, amateur mistake pictured.
