Q-Tip Heart Painting - Valentine’s Day Craft

Q-Tip Heart Painting

Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
I made this heart,
And it’s just for you.

How fun is it to make your own Valentine’s Day Cards! This technique creates a perfect little heart and kids of all ages can participate. Truthfully, your kids can scribble all over the paper and with this technique your hearts will turn out adorable and crisp regardless!

Q-Tip painting is fun for kids as it adds a twist to the traditional paint brush. Painting with new tools is a great way to work on fine motor skills and allows kids to be creative. It also allows your kids to think outside the box and discover new items around the house they can paint with, just make sure to supervise what they select, no one wants moms favourite sweater to become a painting experiment!

Get creative with your Q-Tips! Paint hearts, trees, or little flowers, whatever you decide this one is a must for children.

You will need:

  • Construction Paper

  • Elastic or hair tie

  • Washable Paint

  • Tape

  • Scissors

Instructions:

1) Cut out a heart, or a few hearts, and tape the back down to a piece of construction paper. You will want to ensure you tape the back so the edges are clear.
2) Wrap 6-10 Q-Tips together using an elastic band or hair tie.
3) Give each child a palette of paint colours and one Q-Tip bundle. You could also give multiple bundles, one for each colour, to ensure the colours stay vibrant throughout the whole activity (although I prefer the look of them blending together).
4) Paint all over the construction paper, making sure to go over all the edges.
5) Set aside for several minutes until it dries a little and then peel off the hearts.
6) Dry overnight and that’s it!
