Apple picking holds a special place in our hearts as a family. Every year, as the leaves start to change and the air turns crisp, we bundle up and head out to the orchards. There's something magical about walking through rows of apple trees and hunting for the perfect apple. It’s a tradition that brings us together, gives us a break from the hustle of daily life, and creates memories. If you’re looking to start (or continue) this sweet tradition with your family, here are some of the top apple orchards in and around Ottawa that you should check out!
Mountain orchards

Mountain Orchards is a must-visit for families! No seriously, if you haven’t been you are missing out! Not only do they offer a wide variety of apples to pick, but they also have plenty of activities to keep the kids entertained. After picking your apples, indulge in their famous donuts, tarts, and other bakery treats. The kids will love jumping on hay bales, taking a tractor ride, and getting lost in the corn maze. Don’t forget to explore the forest trail—it's a beautiful spot for a family walk. And if you visit on the weekend, be sure to grab a sausage or hot dog made with their own applesauce.
Cannamore Orchard

Cannamore Orchard is more than just an apple-picking destination—it's an entire family adventure! Located just 35 minutes east of Ottawa, this orchard offers a cow train, wagon rides, hedge mazes, and even a pedal car track. While you’re there, grab a bite at the on-site chip wagon or indulge in some sweet treats from the canteen. Keep in mind that their family activities are mostly available on weekends starting September 7th, and there is an admission fee. For the thrill-seekers, Cannamore also hosts the “Acres of Terror,” a spooky Halloween attraction that’s not for the faint of heart! There is a spooky wagon ride, spooky village, house of terror and a fog maze!
Pinewood orchards

Pinewood Orchard is a hidden gem, located just 20 minutes west of downtown Ottawa. This orchard is all about simplicity—no frills, just pure apple-picking fun. With over 800 mature apple trees, you’re sure to find some of the best-tasting apples in the region. While there aren’t any extra activities here, the peaceful setting and high-quality apples make it worth the visit. Be sure to check out their selection of seasonal produce and vegetables for sale.
Orleans fruit farm

🕒 Hours: Monday - Friday 10 AM - 5:30 PM, Saturday & Sunday 9 AM - 5 PM
For those in the east end, Orleans Fruit Farm is a convenient and delightful option. Perched on a hill with stunning views of the Ottawa River, this farm boasts over 1,000 apple trees. U-pick is available on weekends in September, making it a perfect fall weekend outing. The farm also offers a play structure and picnic tables, making it a great spot to relax after a busy day of apple picking.
Mcgregors fruit farm

McGregor’s Orchard is a family-owned orchard with a bit of everything. Besides apples, they grow lavender, pumpkins, sunflowers, and more. It’s a bit of a drive, but the scenic journey and charming orchard make it worth the trip. After picking apples, browse their orchard store for some fresh lavender and other goodies. The relaxed atmosphere and beautiful surroundings make McGregor’s a lovely spot for a family day out especially if you have older children!
Apple Stock Orchard

Apple Stock Orchard is located just south of Ottawa in beautiful historic North Dundas near Winchester! This is a family owned and operated orchard that is open 7 days a week. The orchard is beautiful for kids to run around and explore. Apples here are sold by the pound so remember to bring your own reusable bags to fill up.

Ok ok, you can’t pick apples here! But this beautiful orchard is one most parents would enjoy. Farm Gate Cider offers a unique twist on the orchard experience. Nestled in the Ottawa Valley, this family-run cidery invites you to taste their delicious, pesticide-free cider made from locally grown apples. It’s a fantastic place to learn about the cider-making process, and they even offer tours of their orchard. Whether you’re a cider lover or just looking for a unique outing, Farm Gate Cider is a great spot for a family day trip. If you are going with a group, make sure to call ahead and book!
